Try Not to See Detroit reckons with the reality of impermanence, and the results of neglect. The text is a prose poem story of a visit I made to the city three years ago. As a travel writer, I've traveled all over the world, both in the developed and the developing world. I've never seen anything quite like the ruins I saw in Detroit; it has never quite left my mind. During my visit, I took many morbid photographs, which I used (in highly altered form) to illustrate the book.
