Lesley Mitchell makes paintings, prints and artist’s books in her Philadelphia studio.
She was trained at the PA Academy of the Fine Arts and has taught printmaking and works on paper classes at many regional institutions. Her imagery includes landscape, cityscape, and figures in movement, sometimes with an abstract or surreal quality. Recent work series include a suite of mixed media works on the Orpheus theme plus a a cycle of abstracted maze paintings inspired by a recent trip to Block Island.
Ms Mitchell also trained as a social dancer and for the past 20 years has maintained an active career teaching and performing Argentine Tango, that most improvised and creative of partner dances. She finds that one art form informs the other frequently
Ms. Mitchell shows her work nationally and internationally.
Lesley passed away in 2017.
