I reside in the California Central Coast creating abstract wood sculpture and paper collage. Having recieved an MFA in painting from UC Berkeley in 1983, my early work was influenced by the Bay Area figurative painters such as Joan Brown and Elmer Bischoff. Over the years narrative scenes became more abstract. As I moved shaped papers around to find a finished image in the collages, the work beckoned to be off the page and the three dimensional sculpture began. The sense of play amidst the profound is always an active element in the art I create. A more detailed bio is on my website.
A ritual assumes the celebration of the unknown, involving mystery and hope. "Heads Tails" reflects the practice of seeking an answer by the simple toss of a coin, an act which also calls upon mystery and hope. The pages are reconstructions of earlier collages, collages of collages. The images are whimsical, abstract, and light, implying an open-ended celebration in the face of vast unknowing.
