ARTIST STATEMENT
My drawings are made of lines created using ink and a tiny, thin striping brush. Primarily abstract and incremental, lines are layered upon one another to build up areas of light and shadow, creating depth. The drawings require repetitive mark-making to create abstract suggestions of landscapes, objects and spaces. The work correlates with many things: nets, nests, networks, webs, yarn, threads, traps, hair, barbed wire, vines, landscapes overtaken by kudzu and organic forms in space. The mystery of the work is found in the dichotomies of softness and stiffness, innocuous and dangerous; the drawings are both welcoming and frightening.
