Two books by one of our tribe Caroline Furr will be included in the Philadelphia Center for the Book’s exhibition. Work will be on display during our annual Book, Paper, Scissors fair Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 10:00am-4:00pm.

In 2013, two-dozen Philadelphia schools were shuttered by city authorities in an effort to close a budget deficit. In response to these closings, Temple Contemporary has commissioned artist Pepón Osorio to create a new installation specifically addressing the loss of the Fairhill Elementary School in North Philadelphia, not far from Temple University.

Artists Nick Cassway, Mark Khaisman, and Steven Earl Weber uniquely approach portraiture and social commentary through the manipulation of packaging tape, computer cut stencils, and printed glass.
We went to see the work of Gerard Brown at Abington Art Center. His is one of several rooms in an joint yet separate set of solo shows. Mr Brown's work fit the gallery space quite well. The scale was very approachable. We enjoy Gerard's secret messages coded in nautical signal flags. We especially like the shaped cut paintings. It feels as though this series of works is really just getting started and there will be more from the extended language. Be sure to check out the Braille series too.
