A Call to Artists: The Church of Saint Asaph 125th Anniversary

The Gallery at the Church of Saint Asaph in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, invites all artists to enter a competition celebrating and interpreting this historical sacred space where creativity, caring for the earth, and social justice have been valued for 125 years. Any original 2-D or 3-D work in any medium that follows entry guidelines will be considered.

The selected works will be on exhibit at the Gallery from November 8 through December 2, 2013. 

Juror

Francine Shore received her BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art, PA and completed graduate work at the University of Mexico, Mexico City. Recipient of a Ford Foundation Grant she has work held in private/corporate, national/international collections, including the Museum of Western Art in Russia and the US Embassy in Brussels, Belgium. Ms. Shore conducts workshops in the American Southwest, Spring Hills Farm, Dalton, PA, Cape Cod, MA, Italy, France, Portugal, and Mexico. She is the Painting and Printmaking Instructor at the Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA, and former member of Third St Gallery, Phila., PA and the Nason Williams Gallery in Taos, NM. Ms. Shore’s work is represented by the Aaron Gallery in Washington, DC.

Entry

Appropriate entries may be submitted by emailing images with artist's name, title, medium, and dimensions to art@saintasaphs.org.  Go to www.saintasaph.org/ for details.

Selection

All selections for exhibition are made by the juror from JPEG images. The juror makes final acceptance from delivered work. The juror designates all awards. All work must be signed by the artist and priced for sale or marked POR (price on request). 2-D work, including outside edges of frame, cannot exceed 36” in height or width. 3-D work must be wall mounted. Please submit one JPEG image per piece entered, or as allowed. The longest pixel dimension of the image should be no greater than 2000 pixels on one side.

Entry Fees

A maximum of 4 original works created within the past three years may be entered. One or two entries $40. Additional two entries $10 each. Entry fees are non-refundable. Entry fees may be mailed on dropped off but must reach St Asaphs by October 4, 2013.

Awards

Cash awards include $500 First Prize, $150 Second Prize and $100 Third Prize.

Notification

All entrants will receive notice by email. The notice to accepted artists will include specific details and could vary from prospectus. A list of accepted artists and artwork will be posted on St. Asaph’s website. Please feel free to contact the Exhibition Chairs directly if you do not receive notice. Exhibition and Delivery Entering and exhibition shall constitute understanding and agreement on the part of the artist with the conditions stated.

  • Measure to ensure work meets any size limitations before delivery, include outer edges of frames. Work not in compliance will not exhibited. No exceptions.
  • Attach label to back with name, title, medium and price.
  • No clip frames or taped edges accepted. Work must be presented in a manner appropriate to the artwork and be equipped for installation. Works requiring a barrier must use Plexiglass on all shipped work.
  • Please affix packing/repacking instruction on OUTSIDE of shipping box and include a pre-paid shipping label.
  • Work must arrive on scheduled dates

Images of accepted works may be used at the sole discretion of the Gallery for promotional purposes including but not limited to the invitation catalog, website or on subsequent years’ prospectus. Image will include attribution wherever possible.

The Gallery will retain 30% from sales. Checks are made out directly to the artist, not to the Gallery. Once all sales are complete, the artist will submit a check, made out to The Church of Saint Asaph in the amount of the commission.

Work cannot be withdrawn before the end of the exhibit.

Liability

 

Artwork and entry materials will be handled with all possible care. The Gallery will not be responsible or liable for loss or damage from any cause whatsoever. Insurance, if desired, must be carried by the artist.
