Seen and liked: John Zinsser ABSTRACT MEMORY at Larry Becker

One of the silver paintings.

A view of the installation of the first room.

If you haven't seen John Zinsser at Larry Becker in Old City you still have a chance. The exhibition has been extended an additional week and the gallery will be open for March First Friday.

The minimalist color field paintings surprise, especially the silver pieces whose hue seems to disappear into a tonal experience from extreme angles. The subtle grids formed by the tools used to make these paintings provide the viewer with a quiet sense of order to the swirling organic forms. Another group of paintings use paint density to dart ones eyes across the canvas.

Then there are the drawings. Amazingly disciplined draftsmanship articulates an exploration of artists works in the form of reproduced Auction Catalogs. The marks and detail are astounding.

Stop by and enjoy!
